project to introduce IT to rural schools

The Sri Lankan government has decided to make provision to implement a project to introduce information technology (IT) to rural schools.
The project is to be implemented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).
The TRC is to provide IT facilities to 1,590 rural schools with less than 50 children and 5,000 primary schools.

The three-year project will be carried out by the TRC in association with the Education Ministry.
Under the project rural schools will be provided with IT facilities that would include internet access, educational computers, computer peripherals and software.
The project is to be carried out by focusing on a selected district every month in the next two years.
